Unfortunately with the continuation of the corona virus, it has ben announced that the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will not go ahead. Our Head physiotherapist Martin has been working with the athletes that were due to compete at the games this summer. Although we now need to keep to social distancing and can’t work hands on with our athletes like we normally do, we are keeping our athletes on form so they are as fit as possible when normal training can resume.
Head physio Martin Davies will be working with Team GB Sailing in Palma at the end of March.
Lucky for some. Martin has been working with Team GB since 2018. The British Sailing Team is Britains most successful olympic team. As the athletes travel around the world to training camps and sailing competition regattas they need to be kept injury free. The British sailing team have a large sports science and sports medicine team that travel with the athletes. This sports science and sports medicine approach to modern day elite sport is essential in elite sport and ultimately results in them winning more medals than any other team.
As the olympics in 2020 comes ever closer the preparation becomes more critical. Sailing in conditions that replicate those to be raced in at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games gives invaluable experience to the sailers and helps the medical and sport science team and technical sports coaches refine the preparation to ensure everything peaks including the health of the athletes for those two weeks in Tokyo.
